The Recreational Safety Deputies patrol and enforce boating laws on the Rock County lakes and the Rock River. During boating season, these Deputies primarily patrol Lake Koshkonong and busy sections of the Rock River. Lake Koshkonong spans roughly 10,500 acres through the counties of Rock, Dane, and Jefferson. Boat patrol includes education, enforcement of boating laws, investigation of accidents, and rescue operations.

During the snowmobile season, the Recreational Safety Deputies patrol the 208 miles of marked snowmobile trails throughout Rock County. These trails allow residents and non-residents the opportunity to explore Rock County. The primary goal of snowmobile patrol is to keep the trails safe through the enforcement of laws.

The Rock County Sheriff's Office takes water safety very seriously. Recognizing that life jackets save lives, the Rock County Sheriff's Office provides several life jacket loaner stations throughout Rock County. People participating in water activities (boating, canoeing, kayaking, water skiing, etc.) can borrow a life jacket from these stations.
