Snowmobiles Near RiverThe Rock County Sheriff's Office strongly encourages all snowmobilers to take a Snowmobile Safety Education Course.

Anyone born on or after January 1, 1985, is required to take a Snowmobile Safety Education Course in order to legally operate a snowmobile in areas open to the public within Wisconsin. It is recommended that participants are at least 12 years of age or turn 12 shortly following completion of the class.

  • There is a class fee of $10.00 per student, which is due at the first session.
  • The student, and a parent/guardian if the student is not 18 years old, must attend the first session. A parent/guardian will need to sign the registration form in order for the underage student to complete the course.

Class size is limited to thirty (30) students. Reserve a seat by completing the form below. If there is no link below, there are no open courses. Upon submitting the reservation form, you will see a confirmation screen with course information.

Direct any questions to Recreational Safety Deputy Trevor Lund at trevor.lund@co.rock.wi.us or 608-373-3816.

The reservation form requires the student's Wisconsin DNR customer ID number. To obtain a DNR customer ID number, call the Wisconsin DNR Hotline at 1-888-936-7463 (daily from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.). For more information on DNR customer ID numbers, visit GETTING A WISCONSIN DNR CUSTOMER ID NUMBER.

Class Location: Rock County Sheriff's Office - Public Meeting Room, 200 East U.S. Highway 14, Janesville, WI 53545

Upcoming Snowmobile Safety Classes

The Rock County Sheriff's Office hosts two snowmobile safety classes each year, one in November and one in December. We will post the classes for registration approximately one month before each class.

If you need to take a class outside of ours, you can search statewide on the Wisconsin DNR GoWild website. If you have attained the age of 16 years old, you can also take the class online through the DNR GoWild website.
